Posted: October 20th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Tips and Tricks | No Comments »

Over time, your Mac can start to run slow due to a build up of unnecessary or duplicate files which are created or left behind when you use your computer regularly. It can become frustrating when your Mac computer is not operating to the best of it’s ability. The good news is that there are a number of ways to speed up Mac operating systems.

The first step if you are hoping to speed up Mac OS X is to clear out the cache. The majority of Mac users use browsers such as Firefox or Safari to browse the internet. These both have the capacity to store a large amount of internet history and temporary files in the cache. However, as this list of visited sites grows with daily internet use, the performance begins to be affected and things will start running much slower. This in turn can cause Mac OS X to become sluggish as it gets clogged with these unnecessary files. That is why with most errors and performance issues, the first piece of advice is to clean out your cache.

However, this is not always enough to speed up Mac computers that are not performing well. There are other issues which can have a negative impact on your Mac’s speed and performance including duplicate files. Duplicate files take up unnecessary space on your system and over time they can really clog up the operating system. However, by downloading a suite of utility programs which will clean and optimize your operating system you will be able to return your Mac to its optimum level of performance and help to speed up Mac OS X. It is possible to download several free utilities to perform the necessary tasks, however, it can be more convenient and cost effective to find a software package such as MacKeeper from Zeobit or TidyUp! from Hyperbolic which can take care of a number of issues including duplicate files, junk files removal, application updates and even data encryption on files containing sensitive information.

Delete Files Permanently on Mac

Posted: October 17th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Tips and Tricks | No Comments »

It is a surprise to many Mac users that when you delete files, even after the trash has been emptied there is a possibility of recovering the data using specialist recovery tools such as the Undelete feature of MacKeeper. This is because the file actually remains on the system, but is marked as free space so that over time it is rewritten with newer data. While this can be useful if you accidentally delete a file that you still need, it is concerning if the files you want to remove contain sensitive information such as tax records, social security numbers or bank details.

The Shredder utility included in MacKeeper from ZeoBIT can delete files or folders permanently, leaving absolutely no possibility of recovery. The files are gone forever and even specialized software cannot retrieve them. This can help to ensure that files containing sensitive information cannot be accessed by unauthorized parties. It should be used when deleting anything on your Mac which contains your personal information, banking details, tax records or social security number.

Some situations in which it is highly recommended that you use. Undelete to ensure that your files are completely removed. For example, if you intend to sell, donate or give away your Mac then you will want to ensure that none of your private feels can be recovered by the new owner. It is also recommended that if you need to take your Mac to a repair center, you should take an external back up of private files and use Shredder to delete them permanently from your Mac before leaving it in the hands of technicians.

The Shredder tool included with MacKeeper is easy to use, you simply need to drag and drop the files you want to permanently remove and then click on the ‘Shred’ button. Protecting your private information has never been easier and you can give it a try free of charge by downloading a fully functioning trial version of MacKeeper.

Fixing Macbook Slow Startup

Posted: October 4th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Tips and Tricks | No Comments »

While Mac computers are considered to be very reliable, all machines encounter issues from time to time. One of the most common problems Macbook users come across is a slow startup process. This can be caused by a number of things including limited hard disk space, a poor power supply or a corruption somewhere in the operating system. Before you spend money taking your Macbook to an expensive technician there are a number of things you can try yourself to fix slow startup in your Macbook.

In order to start up, your Macbook needs to run through a fairly large amount of code. Over time, the operating system can become clogged with junk files which will have the effect of generally slowing down your Macbook’s overall performance including the start up process. Performing regular cleaning scans to remove these junk files can provide a significant increase in start up speeds. There are various utilities available which can help with this.

Another common reason for a slow start up can be the amount of apps which launch on starting up your Macbook. Many Mac users are not even aware of which apps open automatically every time they turn on their Macbook. The more apps which are set to launch on start up, the longer the process will take. You can check which apps are set as start up apps by visiting ‘Login Items’ in the system preferences area of the Apple menu.

The MacKeeper program from ZeoBIT actually contains utilities which can take care of both cleaning your Mac and managing your start up apps as well as tools to help with many other tasks such as data control, antivirus protection, data recovery and creating backups.

A 15 day trial of MacKeeper, in which all tools are functional, is available to download.

However, there are a number of way which you can speed up your iBook to a certain extent. Just like any other Mac computer, as the hard drive fills up over time, the performance will begin to suffer. Whenever you find that your iBook is getting a little bit sluggish, it is a good indication that it is time to run some clean up and maintenance tools.

If you think of your hard drive as a room in your home it becomes easy to understand why your iBook can slow down over time. If you are continually adding furniture to your room without every tidying up or getting rid of old furniture then over time it will fill up. Imagine moving around a room with 5 or 6 times the amount of furniture currently in it. I am sure you will agree that it would be difficult to move around in there. The same theory applies to your iBook. If there is a build up of junk files, duplicate files, and unused apps on your hard disk then your operating system will find it difficult to move around and find the files needed to perform the tasks you are requesting.

The first step to fixing your slow iBook is to perform a clean up of your system. Remove junk files which are clogging up the operating system, clean out your cache, remove unused applications and look for duplicate files taking up unnecessary apace on your hard drive. This can be a long and tedious process. However, the good news is that there are plenty of applications out there to help you achieve this easily.

Duplicate File Finder Tools Vs Manual Duplicate File Search

Posted: September 24th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Tips and Tricks | No Comments »

When you know that there are duplicate files clogging up your computer and having a negative impact on the performance levels of your entire system you will have to start considering how to go about finding and removing those duplicate files. You could go ahead and do a manual duplicate file search and remove the files one by one, or you could opt for a duplicate file finder tool which will take care of the files automatically. But which is the right option? At the end of the day the right option is whichever one is the best for your own individual needs. However, some things to consider are the time, the effort, the cost and the difficulty level of performing your duplicate file search and removal.

If you choose to do a manual duplicate file search then you have to be prepared for it to take a very long time and for it to be very tedious. You will need to look at each file type individually. You would search for all of that file type on your computer and then sort them alphabetically. Once this is done you would work through the list looking for duplicate names and checking to see if they are the same file. Once you have confirmed that the file is a duplicate you can go on and remove it. As you can no doubt imagine, this is a very tedious and time consuming process. You then have the additional factor that duplicate files may occasionally have a different name so you will miss some using this method.

However, if you go ahead and use a software package to perform your duplicate file search you will get through the process very quickly. Good duplicate file finders will also search and compare by various different criteria to provide much more accurate matches. The software will also back up files before deletion so that you have the option of restoring them in case of emergency. Overall using a duplicate file finder is much easier, much safer and generally more convenient. Most of the time using software such as Easy Duplicate Finder to perform a duplicate file search

If you use the wrong tools, removing duplicate files can be a painstakingly drawn out tedious process. However, if you use the right tools like an easy duplicate finder, removing the duplicate files from your hard drive can simply be a matter of a couple mouse clicks.

  • Often times, the wrong button is pressed when files are being moved
  • Many files downloaded from sites like Google don’t have file names, causing files to share the same title

These are just a few examples of how easy it is for duplicate files to infest your hard drive and affect the speed and overall performance of your computer. Mac Antivirus Software Review

Posted: September 21st, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Tips and Tricks | No Comments »

Although Mac OS X is far less susceptible to viruses and other security threats than a Windows PC, viruses are still a cause for concern. As macs become more popular, the need for mac antivirus software will rise as well. Viruses are constantly evolving and no computer system can claim to be entirely immune to them. MacKeeper features a powerful antivirus utility which offers dual protection for your system against not only known Mac OS threats, but also Windows threats which can also be a risk for Mac users.

It is surprisingly easy to put your computer system at risk from viruses. The more you use your Mac the greater your exposure to online threats. Everyday tasks such as online banking, shopping online, visiting social networking sites and sending or receiving email can put your Mac at risk from malicious attacks. This makes the need for a good antivirus utility a huge priority. This is why I have made it an issue to conduct a Mac Antivirus Software review, and I have come across one program in particular that’s a keeper.

MacKeeper Antivirus, once installed, will launch and begin to secure all of your online activities. Threats will automatically be detected and permanently removed to ensure maximum levels of security for your Mac. As new virus threats are discovered regular security updates released by ZeoBIT Antivirus Lab are automatically downloaded so that you have the peace of mind which comes with knowing that your antivirus protection is as up to date as possible. The dual protection feature of MacKeeper Antivirus means that you have a level of protection against online threats which is not offered by any other Mac antivirus package currently on the market.

Not only does MacKeeper offer an unrivaled level of antivirus protection for your Mac computer system, but for the price you might expect to pay for a standalone antivirus feature, you will actually be getting access to over 16 utilities to improve security and performance and to allow you to clean up your Mac by eliminating duplicate files, unused applications and binaries, junk files and other data which is taking up unnecessary space on your hard disk. Duplicate File Manager on Mac

Posted: August 8th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Duplicate File Manager Mac | No Comments »

Whether you want to get rid of duplicate autio files wasting space in itunes, or if you just want to clean out all of the duplicate files and duplicate software in your computer, you’re going to need a capable duplicate file manager. Mac users are the gifted group that have several options, some are user-friendly and straight-forward, while others can potentially delete files that they shouldn’t have.

When researching a mac duplicate file manager, in my opinion, the most important factor is how easy it is to control which files are selected, and what’s done with them. You might, for example, find a folder of duplicate songs which are taking up gigs of unecessary space, however, you may not want to nuke them off your computer. You might, instead, want to back them up on a DVD, or portable hard disk. I’ve used programs which make this function easy to follow, and programs which wiped out files that I didn’t want them to.

The next most important factor when deciding which Duplicate File Manager is – how advanced of a search can you perform? I ideally want to use a program that is easy enough for my grandmother to use, but advanced enough that I can use it to really dig in and find files based on bitrates, author, time, and many other factors.

I’m not a review author by trade, but I can say that when it comes to duplicate file managers, there are only a couple of pieces of software that I can truly suggest out of a sea of options.

Luckily for my readers, there is a limited free trial of my top choice, Tidy Up. You can use the program for free and find and remove a selection of your duplicate files or songs.
