Find Duplicate MP3 Files

One of the main reasons for a computer to slow down is due to duplicate files. If you have more than one copy of the same file on your system then you are using unnecessary storage space. As you hard drive fills up causing your operating system to become sluggish. There area a huge number of reasons why we end up with duplicate files just a few of them include:

  • Uninstalling and then reinstalling the same data or programs repeatedly
  • Copying and pasting files from one location to another without deleting the originals
  • Downloading multiple versions of the same file
  • Saving files as a different name when editing

The most common type of duplicate files are MP3 files. Again there are multiple reasons for this:

  • Accidentally purchasing the same MP3 more than once
  • Purchasing a single track then later purchasing the whole album.
  • When copying your CD collection to your computer the same track may be on several CDs
  • Some media players create a new version of the file to play
  • When you copy MP3s to a folder to create a playlist or burn a CD you may forget to delete the original.

While you could go through your MP3 files manually, it can be time consuming. If you have a large number of MP3 files then it is quicker and easier to use software to remove duplicate MP3 files from your computer. One program which Mac users can use to remove duplicate MP3 files is Tidy Up! From Hyperbolic Software. It has the ability to find duplicate files of many different types including MP3 files and it is fully compatible with iTunes allowing you to streamline your music collection. It can also be used for other files including fonts, Jpegs and many more. A free trial version is available to let you see just how easy it is to remove your duplicate MP3 files.

If you often get frustrated when you find duplicate files on your computer you may be asking yourself why you have so many duplicates. There are many reasons for duplicate files appearing on your system. Some of these reasons include uninstalling and reinstalling the same data or downloading various versions of the same file. It can be difficult to remove duplicates manually and it can also be fairly time consuming. However, it is possible to use a program such as Tidy Up! (For Mac Users) to perform the task for you quickly and conveniently.

One of the most common types of files which can end up being duplicated on your computer system are music files. You may get duplicate files when uploading music tracks from a cd or when downloading MP3 tracks from iTunes or other online music stores. MP3 files are among the most commonly duplicated files because they can recreate new versions of themselves if played on different music players and also if you make playlists to add to a device such as an iPod or to burn to CD. It is important to remove these duplicates to avoid them using up unnecessary disk space or even having a detrimental effect on your computer’s overall performance.

Tidy Up! Is a good choice of tool to use for helping you to remove duplicates from your music collection as it is compatible with iTunes as well as many other common applications. When setting your search options with Tidy Up! Be sure to include your iTunes library in the list of folders to search in order find and remove duplicates of your MP3s. While you could undertake this task to remove duplicates manually, it is so much easier to download a free trial of Tidy Up! which will allow you to carry out the task in a very short time instead of working on it for a few hours or more.

I recommend Tidy Up! because it can be used for other duplicate file searches also. However – if your problem is mainly with iTunes and nothing else, then I would also recommend you take a look at Rinse My Music(which is for Windows also)

iTunes Duplicate Files – How to Remove Duplicates from Mac OSX

Posted: July 26th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: iTunes duplicate files | No Comments »

iTunes is one of the biggest duplicate files creators on a Mac OSX. Why is this? Because we store all of our music, TV shows, movies, and applications that we transfer to our iPods, iPhones and iPads. When we transfer files back and forth and download new files from various sources, we end up clogging our hard drive and filling up iTunes. The result? A slower Mac OSX computer that needs to be cleaned up and sped up.

The process of getting rid of these duplicate files can be painstakingly slow and tedious if you try to do so manually. There are other options, but only one solution stands out. If you’re in a hurry, check out Tidy Up and see what I’m talking about.
iTunes gets filled with duplicate songs and takes forever to load or respond. Is there anything more annoying than staring at the spinning rainbow-colored beachball? This is often directly associated with duplicate songs in your iTunes folder that are hogging your hard disk space.
You can use the ‘Show Duplicates in iTunes’ function, however the process is not that simple. You are going to need to check each song, make sure you are not deleting the higher quality version, and you will miss songs that are named the wrong way. However, you will be able to delete the songs you’ve selected after running this function.
If you use software that is created for this purpose, then you’ll be able to compare bitrate, author, date, and you’ll be able to quickly compare two tracks and select the better version, whether the song is named correctly or not. If your time is worth something to you, then you might as well spend small fee to have your entire mac osx laptop quickly cleaned up.

That’s why Tidy Up (free trial) is my choice when it comes to fixing itunes duplicate files.

2011 is more than half-way complete, and in this time, Macintosh computers have seen a lot of changes. Namely, they’ve become more popular than ever. In effect this means there is more freeware, shareware, programs, and other installations that are being downloaded and ran than any time in the history of mac computers. This results in a lot of new options for a mac user if they need a particular type of software. Since this website deals with duplicate file cleaner software, that’s the software I always have in mind.

The best duplicate file finder for mac in 2011 should have the following characteristics:

  • Easy to use
  • Deletes all duplicates that the user selects
  • Makes it easy to review all duplicate matches
  • Ability to preview duplicate songs, photos, e-mails, and other files before deletion
  • Makes back-ups a one click process
  • Is quick to scan
  • Has A+ Customer Service if any help is needed
  • Does not charge any unnecessary fees or have recurring costs
  • Speeds the computer up by a noticeable amount after completion
  • Is cost-sensible
  • Does not install any extras that the user does not know about or need
I’ve reviewed nearly a dozen different software packages this year, and no program has taken the top spot away from my pick, TidyUp, yet.

Are you tired of dealing with a slow iTunes library, filled with duplicate songs? I know I was, and have spent hours in the past trying to find the best version of the same song manually.

Well, a new piece of software is making the entire process a couple of clicks instead of several hours.

Instead of slowly using the Find and Replace tool to manually clean out your library, you can instead get the entire process finished in a matter of minutes. Not only that, but it’s also fun to choose new album artwork and tweak your music library to perfection.

Check out the software that I recommend to clean your iTunes library >>

The program is quick to download, and will tell you which song is of better quality, making it easier for you to get rid of the songs you don’t need, that are hogging your system resources. You will be able to delete duplicates in iTunes easily after a few clicks.

The software does its magic by scanning your music library, including mp3s not in iTunes if you desire, and identifying all of the duplicate iTunes songs. Removal can then be performed automatically or you can tag the songs you plan on deleting for later.

Why is this such a common problem? Because iTunes can be a big system performance hog, and when you stack on hundreds if not thousands of mp3 files, many of them duplicate, the slowdown just gets worse and worse, which ends up costing you money in lost productivity, and potentially an over-heated, overworked laptop.

Why is my MacBook running slow?

Your MacBook is running slow? This is a common issue once a computer has been used for more than a few months, and after enough programs have been installed. One quick fix is to upgrade your Apple computer’s RAM. Most models come with 512 mb of RAM, when you can upgrade all the way up to 2 GB. However, if you can’t afford the prices that Apple charges to upgrade (and they can be quite expensive) then consider some alternatives to speed up your mac.

The first common-sense solution is to close your open applications. I find that a lot of Apple computer users like to leave multiple applications open, including iTunes, your internet browser, your e-mail reader, your photo viewer, and many more programs. This can easily cause the slowdown you are experiencing. If you’re not using iTunes, shut it off, as it burns a lot of system resources while it’s open.

You should also restart your computer from time to time. It’s easy to just shut the lid of your laptop when you’re finished with it, but this means it has to load up your programs and preferences from memory each time you boot up. This can cause additional slowdown.

Keep your Macbook cool. A laptop that is overheated will perform in a strange manner, and will not run as fast as it should. This can happen if you are always using your laptop on the bed, or somewhere where the fans are not able to blow out air. The best place to use your laptop is on a flat surface, like a table.

Turn off unused applications. Some programs automatically run, whether or not you’re using them. You can adjust these settings in your System Preferences set-up. For example, if you don’t need bluetooth capabilities or speech recognition, then turn these features off.

Disable Widgets. If you’re not using them, don’t boot them up. They use system resources.

And predictably, remove duplicate files. Duplicate mp3s, photos, and program files will bloat your system quicker than any other offender. If you have moved from another laptop, or if you think you might have duplicates, you should run a program to get rid of duplicates.

Hope this helps!
