A friend of mine recently lost half her photo album, and searched spotlight for the missing jpgs and jpegs. She was amazed to find thousands more photos, with many of them being duplicates. She tried a shareware program called “iPhoto diet,” without any luck. She faced the problem of needing to still recover the photos, and rebuild her photo library. There was a long process that was available on the Apple support site, but it also doesn’t guarantee that the duplicate problem would go away.

There are instructions for advanced users involving using commands in Terminal. I didn’t want her to screw up her computer, if by chance, the commands she typed in cause further problems.
