How to Speed Up Mac OSX: 5 Ways

The more you use your Mac OSX computer, the slower it eventually becomes. Doesn’t seem fair, does it? But it’s the nature of downloading files, programs, music, photos, etc. and transferring folders over time. If you want to speed up Mac OSX, you can do so by following some tips below.

1. Limit start-up items: When Mac OSX starts up, it loads up the various items that you have selected. This may include programs that automatically boot up, and widgets as well. These options and items can be directly responsible for slowing you down. So cut out what you don’t need.

2. Empty the Recycle Bin: This one seems so obvious, but I’ve seen recycle bins with over a gigabyte of deleted items! Clear your recycle bin regularly.

3. Old or corrupt firmware: Firmware that is not kept up to date can have a severe effect on system speed. It’s easy to fix the issue, just click ‘Software Update’ in your Apple menu. You can also schedule future updates in the System preferences folder.

4. Your Hard Drive is nearly full: Once your virtual memory is used up, it looks to use memory in your hard drive. If that’s nearly full, then the result is a painfully slow operating system. Make sure there’s enough space to combat this slowdown.

5. Duplicate music files, font files, photos, etc.
Duplicate files are a very big reason for mac slowdown that don’t usually get that much attention. Simply getting rid of duplicate files using a duplicate file finder can make cleaning up your entire computer a breeze.
I highly suggest that you consider the software that I use, which is a duplicate file finder mac, that will get you on the tracks to a fast mac again. Go take a look and see if it’s right for you, there’s a free-trial.
