Duplicate files can be annoying. They use up disk space and make your computer filing system
disorganized. If you attempt to find duplicate files and remove them manually, it can take a very
long time and is extremely tedious. However, by using a duplicate finding tool you can make the
task quick and painless.
In order to choose the best software to find duplicate files on your system, there are a number
of things you should look at. The first being what search criteria the application uses. Ideally,
to find duplicate files successfully, multiple search criteria should be used. While duplicate files
sometimes have the same name, often they will have different file names and as a result, you will
want to compare other criteria including size, file type, modified date and more. A tool which uses
multiple criteria will perform a more effective search.
Ideally, you will want a program which can provide a detailed search report. This is useful when
you are deciding which of the duplicate files to remove. It is important that the files are not
automatically removed, as some of them may be included in the results in error. You do not want
to delete something important. The majority of duplicate file detectors will allow you to select
which of the results to remove.
These are the basic requirements you should look for when choosing software find duplicate
files and help you to remove them. However, it can also be an advantage if you find a tool which
can also support removable devices such as your iPhone, CD Rom, USB storage and more. If your
chosen software can scan all devices it will save time and effort. It is also an advantage if your
chosen software can synchronize your files for you to better organize your computer.
If you have a piece of software you are considering trying out, then look for a free trial to
download so that you have the opportunity to try before you buy.
